#Dockmate transom ladder portable#
I tried one of those vinyl-clad shepherd's hook type of portable ladders, but it never seemed trustworthy or stable and either hung under the boat because the standoffs were too short, or didn't hook well on the top if placed where the slope of the topsides accommodated it better. I agree that there's really no GREAT place for a ladder, at least that I've found it's crowded back there with the outboard, backstays, stern rail, etc., but I figure SOME way of getting yourself back onboard is way better than NO way. The ladder itself is maybe five pounds.Ĭlick to expand. Thanks to both of you for the replies. Will that be sufficiently strong to counteract the torque-ish load placed on the transom by that angle mount? I weigh 160, and my wife's considerably less. Plan is to make them pretty oversize, bevel the edges so there are no hard spots, and attach them (epoxy? 4000/4200/5200?) inside. I have a sheet of 1/4" aluminum from which I'll fabricate backing plates. My transom is sloped and my cabinets are not, obviously, but it's not sloped at near the angle the mounting brackets hold the ladder. A good idea in terms of ease of climbing, but it seems like it would put a TREMENDOUS amount of leverage force on the mounting surface.

The arrow indicates a pin (there's one on both brackets)that keeps the ladder extended at an angle from the mounting surface. I've attached a pic of the ladder resting against my kitchen cabinets. Now that I have it in my mitts and can see how it works, I'm a little concerned about the pressure it'll place on the boat when used. There's not a ton of room back there, but this one will fit. lovin' it!Īnyway, I'd like to mount a boarding ladder on the transom and have purchased a Garelick collapsible stainless ladder for that purpose. We've already sailed more in the last three weeks than we have in the last five years combined.

been away for a few years, but am back for REAL this time finally got our Pearson 26 in decent sailing shape and sailed/motored it down from NE Lake Ontario (Chaumont Bay) to Oneida Lake, which has a very active sailing club and is only about 25 minutes from my house (as opposed to an hour and half up to Chaumont).
